You're simply using our service to send a letter you could send yourself. Many gym contracts specifically include cancellation by certified mail as a valid method.

What if my gym doesn't accept mail cancellations?

Most major gym chains — including Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, Gold's Gym, Anytime Fitness, and many others — accept cancellations by certified mail, and some even require it. Sending a certified letter creates a legal paper trail that proves the gym received your request. Even if a gym claims they don't accept mail cancellations, the certified delivery receipt is strong evidence in any dispute. If you're unsure about your gym's policy, check your membership agreement or contact us.

After that, the gym's processing time varies — most gyms process cancellations within 7–14 business days of receiving the letter. What's the refund policy on the $49 Guaranteed plan?

If your letter is delivered (confirmed by USPS tracking) and the gym still does not cancel your membership, we'll refund your full payment minus the actual certified mail postage cost (approximately $8–12). The refund is based on evidence that the letter was delivered and the gym failed to process the cancellation. Refunds may be denied if inaccurate information was provided, there are outstanding balances on your gym account, or your contract does not permit cancellation by mail.

Do I need to know my membership number?

No, your membership number is optional. However, including it helps the gym locate your account faster and reduces the chance of processing errors. You can usually find your membership number on your gym key tag, in your original sign-up email, on your monthly statement, or by calling the gym. If you can't find it, don't worry — your name and address are typically sufficient for the gym to identify your account.

You receive a tracking number, and the postal carrier records when the letter is delivered. Can I cancel a gym contract or commitment agreement?

We will send your cancellation letter regardless of your contract type. However, whether the gym accepts the cancellation depends entirely on the terms of your specific agreement. Some contracts have early termination fees, minimum commitment periods, or specific cancellation windows. We recommend reviewing your contract before submitting so you understand any potential fees or restrictions. Our letter does not override your contractual obligations.

We need your full name, email address, the gym's name, the gym's mailing address, and your mailing address (for the return address). Optionally, you can include your phone number, membership number, and specific reasons for cancellation. The more information you provide, the easier it is for the gym to process your request.

Is my information secure?

Yes. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe, a PCI DSS-compliant processor — we never see or store your credit card details. Your personal data is stored in encrypted databases on Supabase (hosted on AWS). We never sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. The only time your information is shared is with our certified mail provider (Lob) to print and mail your letter, and with MailerSend for email notifications.

What happens after I submit my cancellation request?

For paid tiers ($20 Standard or $49 Guaranteed): your letter is printed on professional letterhead and mailed via USPS Certified Mail within 1 business day. You'll receive a confirmation email with your order details and a USPS tracking number once the letter ships. For the free tier: you'll receive an instant PDF download of your formatted cancellation letter that you can print and mail yourself.

Can I track my letter?

Yes — all paid tier orders include a USPS tracking number. You'll receive the tracking number via email once the letter ships, and you can also check your order status anytime at dumpmygym.com/status using your email or order number. You'll be able to see when the letter is in transit, out for delivery, and delivered.

What if the letter gets returned as undeliverable?

Accepted Answer

If the letter is returned by USPS as undeliverable, we'll notify you by email. This usually means the gym's address was incorrect or the business has closed. For Guaranteed tier customers, we'll work with you to verify the address and resend the letter at no extra cost, or issue a full refund if the issue can't be resolved. For Standard tier customers, please contact us and we'll help you figure out the correct address.

Do you work with all gyms?

Yes — we can send a USPS Certified Mail letter to any gym, fitness studio, or health club in the United States. This includes national chains like Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Gold's Gym, Equinox, Crunch, and YMCA, as well as local and independent gyms. As long as you have the gym's mailing address, we can send the letter.

Can I edit the letter before it's sent?

Yes. During the cancellation wizard, you'll see a preview of your letter with all the details filled in. You can customize the letter body, add specific reasons for cancellation, mention any relevant contract details, or include any other information you'd like the gym to have. We provide a professional template as a starting point, but you have full control over the content.

What's the difference between the $20 Standard and $49 Guaranteed plans?

The $20 Standard plan includes printing and mailing your cancellation letter via USPS Certified Mail with full tracking. The $49 Guaranteed plan includes everything in Standard, plus: gym response monitoring (we follow up if needed), and our refund guarantee — if the gym doesn't cancel your membership after receiving the letter, you get a full refund minus postage costs. Both plans include the same high-quality certified mail delivery.

How do I check my order status?

Visit dumpmygym.com/status and enter your email address or order number. You'll see your full order history including letter status, USPS tracking information, and delivery confirmation. You can also use the tracking link in your confirmation email to go directly to your order details.

Do I need to create an account?

No — creating an account is completely optional. You can submit a cancellation request and track your order using just your email address. If you do create an account, you'll have a dashboard where you can view all your orders in one place, but it's not required to use any feature of the service.
